A peer-to-peer country exchange visit on promotion of universal social protection systems based on sustainable financing will take place in Lusaka, Zambia on May 8-13, 2023. The visit is organized by Uganda and Ethiopia teams working on SP&PFM project.

Objectives                        

  • Facilitate peer-to-peer learning regarding coverage extension of social protection to all.
  • Share country experiences on social assistance targeting and implications for social cohesion and management of social protection information systems.
  • Appreciate application of administrative processes in line with registrations, contributions and benefits claims for workers in the informal economy.
  • Learnings on shock responsive social protection including implementing cash transfers (lessons from COVID -19) and climate related responses to emergencies through social protection.
  • Information exchange on gender and age sensitive; Disability Inclusive Social Protection.
  • Advocacy strategies for sustainable financing for social protection as a driver for universal social protection.

Participants

Participants of the Peer-to-Peer exchange include;

  • Government social protection line ministries, parliamentary legislators, Civil Society Organizations, Employers’ and Workers’ Organizations from Ethiopia and Uganda as well as the host country, Zambia.
  • SP-PFM project management team members (includes staff from ILO,UNICEF, HelpAge International)
  • Up to 30 participants are expected to attend the event excluding the host country.

Engagement Methodology

The event will involve presentations from different countries as well as field visits to relevant agencies and program sites. At the end of the program, the two countries (Ethiopia and Uganda) will be expected to commit to action plans to inform further strengthening of social protection systems with related financing.
